HGV Traffic
We have no precise figures about the expected total daily amount of HGV traffic as both Goodman and Tesco have so far refused to give us this information. However we can make a reasonable estimate based on Goodman's peak hour traffic flows, which they are obliged to provide in order to test whether the road system can cope, and Tesco's statement to us that they expect their vehicle flows to be roughly constant throughout the 24hrs. Goodman have provided peak morning and evening hour figures when all units in the business park are occupied and these average out at 264 HGV movements per hour (i.e. in and out of the business park). Tesco' statement implies that this rate will apply throughout the 24 hrs and this would indicate a daily total of 6336 HGV movements. However, there is some uncertainty because (a) we do not know if the other units in the park will also be operating 24/7 and (b) Goodman's data are based on typical users, and not specifically Tesco, and have some features that may not be applicable to Tesco. Nevertheless it seems likely that the business park will give rise to around 6000 HGV movements per day. Note that the peak of 264 movements per hour equals 1 HGV either entering or leaving every 14 seconds. Note also that Goodman are predicting a peak light vehicle movement rate of 560 per hour, so at peak times we can expect a vehicle of some sort to be entering or leaving the business park every 4.4 seconds. |
