99.995% of letters received by Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) Vote ‘NO!” and say ‘STOP!’ to the MEGAshed

Reg Presley of The Troggs adds his voice to the STOP! campaign

TVBC have received and logged so far [as at 5th November] 1608 individual letters concerning the Goodman/Tesco plan. Many more remain to be logged by the TVBC Planning Department. Of those logged so far, 1599 are letters objecting to the plan (99.995%) with just 9 letters (0.005%) letters received in support of the proposed plan.

Reg Presley of The Troggs, viewing the Goodman plans for the TESCO MEGAshed at the TVBC Offices says: “I was becoming a Mild Thing – but I am now a Wild Thing! This plan from Goodman and Tesco is a monstrosity. I had no idea of the scale of it. It will do Andover no good at all!”

STOP! Campaigners poured  over the thousands of letters of objection lodged with TVBC to the Goodman/Tesco MEGAshed proposed development with Reg Presley of The Troggs [pictured here 3rd from left]. Of the 1599 letters of objection logged so far by TVBC, 521 (33%) are from people living in the centre of Andover with an additional 224 (15%) from wards north of the A303 and adjacent to the town.

“This is an issue for the whole of Andover and the surrounding area and roads,” says Reg, “not just for the villages south of the town. Andover Town - including the Councillors - had better wake up to this before it is too late and vote against this development. Why should Andover be lumbered with this MEGAshed and the vast increase in HGV traffic it will bring, when many other Councils and Communities have turned it away? Andover needs a Business Park – not a TESCO HGV Park!”

“TVBC Planning has confirmed to us that whilst the first version Report to be sent to Councillors will be finalised on Friday 9th November,” says Rhonda Smith of the STOP! Campaign, “all further letters objecting to the Airfield plans will be logged and new points raised will be addressed in a further written report to be submitted to Councillors on the day of the meeting – 3rd December 2007 at The Lights, Andover. However, it is suggested that all those wishing to object should do so as early as possible.”

The revised plans remain on view in TVBC Beech Hurst Reception until 22nd November with access online to all the supporting documents at TVBC.

Rhonda continues: “The STOP! campaign requested of TVBC two weeks ago at least two ‘late night’ viewings and one Saturday morning viewing to ensure that those who commute or work shifts and cannot get to the TVBC offices during normal working hours are not ‘excluded’ from this public consultation process. We are still waiting for an answer to that request.”

bullet The STOP! Campaign is organising a further Public Event and Public Meeting on Tuesday 20th November 2007. For further information log on to www.stopmegasheds.co.uk or email info@stopmegasheds.co.uk
