STOP! says ‘Thank you’ to all supporters for your moral, practical and financial support so far – this is not the end of the journey! TVBC Planning Control Councillors have voted to overturn the decision of the Northern Area Planning Committee and approve the Goodman Application for their MEGAshed plan. Our view is unchanged – this plan does not deliver a mixed Business Park and is not in the best interests of Test Valley, now or in the future. Going forward, STOP! will continue to monitor carefully the development of the Section 106 legal agreement which contains the conditions that attempt to control the negative impact of this development in terms of HGV volumes, noise, pollution and barred routes. However, our view is that no conditions, however onerous, can ever negate the Shed’s impact. The STOP! Campaign can take great pride in having succeeded in getting the S106 conditions agreed, the most onerous conditions ever imposed on a developer. Whether those S106 conditions are workable, enforceable or indeed are ever needed remains to be seen! In addition, the changes to the Megashed which were forced on Goodman's thanks to the efforts of the campaign and the Parish Councils mean that the building is far better and lower than it would otherwise have been if Goodman's had implemented their original design. We will also be reviewing the options with our expert and legal team concerning a Judicial Review which will require considerable funding. Any decision in this regard will not be taken lightly or hastily. Sorry, sorry to residents closest to the proposed Shed in Red Post Lane, Weyhill, Gallaghers Mead, Barlows Lane, Burghclere Down and Upper Clatford (1,750 parishioners less than 100 mtrs from the A303). The only comfort we can give you right now is that with this economic downturn the chances of the MEGAshed actually ever being built are slimmer than they were. Please also note that The Government Office of the South East (GOSE) are not calling in the application. The Secretary of State (Hazel Blears) has the right to call in planning major applications. She has decided not to call this in. Click here for the letter. |
